In March there are a couple of events taking place in the Ward of Cheap starting with our annual reception on Wednesday 4 March, a public consultation on the transformation of the current BT Centre on 4-5 March, and our annual ‘Wardmote’ or meeting of citizens on 19 March.
4 March: Ward of Cheap reception
We have already over 30 local organisations and City workers joining us at our annual reception in the Ward of Cheap on Wednesday 4 March from 5.30pm to 8pm. If you haven’t already registered you can email Tijs Broeke
4-5 March: Public exhibition of plans to transform 81 Newgate Street
You might be aware the BT Centre on 81 Newgate Street has been sold. Orion Capital Managers, the new owners and Pella Real Estate Partners are presenting proposals to transform the existing building into a dynamic mixed-use development bringing together office, retail, culture and leisure.
You can see the plans to open up the ground floor as a public space with a digital art installation, new swimming pool in the basement, and a public rooftop garden, on Wednesday and Thursday at Botolph’s Church on Aldersgate Street, EC1A 4EU. More information click here.
19 March: Annual Ward meeting at Saddlers’ Hall
Last year over 50 City workers and residents attended the annual meeting of the Ward of Cheap – called ‘Wardmote’ or meeting of citizens in the City – to quiz Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney and three local Common Councillors Alastair Moss, Nick Bensted-Smith and Tijs Broeke.
Our team answered questions about rough sleeping, diversity, road safety, access for black cabs to Bank Junction, congestion, air quality, the Corporation’s gender identity survey and the tradition of political independence in the City.
Everyon in the Ward of Cheap is warmly invited to join this year’s annual meeting kindly hosted by the Saddlers’ Company at 40 Gutter Lane on 19 March at 12.30pm.
