As your local elected Common Councillors we have thrown ourselves fully in representing businesses, workers and residents based in the Ward of Cheap over the last few years. We are proud of what we have achieved together, and it would be a privilege to be re-elected to continue our work as your three Councillors.

Responding to the launch of the Levelling Up White Paper the City of London Corporation said they welcome the Levelling Up White Paper launched and look forward to working closely with the Government to support growth across the UK.

The City of London Corporation has agreed to launch a new grant scheme to support Square Mile businesses that have been hit by restrictions introduced in response to the Covid-19 Omicron variant. This follows action by a group of Councillors, including our Ward of Cheap team.

Residents, businesses and City workers in Ward of Cheap are invited to an unique virtual meeting with the new City of London Police Commissioner, Angela McLaren on Thursday 13 January. This event is organised by Ward of Cheap Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney, and Common Councillors Alastair Moss, Nick Bensted-Smith and Tijs Broeke, together with the Cheapside Business Alliance.

When we were elected as representatives for the Ward of Cheap we promised to keep everyone informed of our work. Despite the challenges of Covid19 over the last 24 months we’ve kept this promise. Together with we stayed in touch with City workers and residents, through our websited, regular updates, face to face and virtual meetings and our newsletters.

It is great after the summer break to see the buzz returning in the Square Mile. The number of people travelling into the City significantly increased in September. This was definitely noticeable when going out for lunch around Cheapside. We also had a chance to meet again in person and to reconnect with residents and City workers at our Ward of Cheap summer reception.

The City of London Corporation has announced a new 2040 net zero target for its combined £3bn investment portfolios, outlining a concrete action plan in response to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s ‘code red’ climate warning.

Everyone with a connection to the Square Mile, including residents, business owners, workers and visitors, can help shape policing in the City through an online survey.

As the City works to rebuild from the pandemic, now is your chance to help shape its future. In March 2022, elections will be held across the Square Mile to decide who will represent City workers and residents for the next three years. You must be registered by 16 December 2021 in order to vote.
