Ward of Cheap

Cheap is located in the heart of the City. It stretches west to east from King Edward Street to Old Jewry and north to south from Gresham Street to Cheapside. The name Cheap derives from the Old English word “chep” for “market”.

Within our boundaries we have two churches: St Vedast Foster Lane and St Lawrence Jewry; and several Livery Halls including those of the Mercers’, Goldsmiths’, Wax Chanders’ and Saddlers’ Companies.

Not only does Cheap have a rich history as the commercial heart of the City, it remains a buzzing area with small and large businesses located in the Ward, and many shops and restaurants.

Through the Cheapside Business Alliance local businesses and our team continue to work together to improve and invest in keeping Cheap vibrant.

Our ward also has a Ward Club who organise different events throughout the year. You can find out more information here.
